How to properly design a low pass filter for 16 V peak and 20 A peak?

Hello!

I would like to know if anyone could point me out the starting point to design a line filter for a 16 V peak (12 VDC) and 20 A peak system.

How correctly choose components? (Inductors and capacitors)
What are the tricks/worries behind the design?
Any experiences or guidelines will be much appreciated.
