which offset frequency to measure phase noise?
Mar 02nd, 2004, 4:52am

Hi, all
In phase noise windows, which offset frequency shoud I take to measure phase noise?
I see some paper measure the phase noise in 100K Hz offset frequency.
but I feel very confuse.
such as a VCO. it oscillating frequency can be 500M Hz.
but another VCO , it oscillating at 5M Hz.
Should I alway measure their phase noise at 100K Hz offset ?
Is this reasonable?

Hi,

The offset at which you should measure the phase noise depends on the specs of your application. The distance at which the phase noise is measured typically corresponds to the channel spacing of your RF comms protocol.
