Simulator Comparisons

Cooley's Deep Chip has released his latest trip report. It has an interesting section on timing and circuit simulators. Going on this report it seems that HSIM is the leading timing simulator and Spectre is the leading circuit simulator.

You can find the report at http://www.deepchip.com/items/snug04-17.html.

By the way, the Dataquest marketshare numbers contained in the report are wacky. Dataquest does a very poor job of segmenting the circuit simulation market, and so ends up comparing apples to oranges. This seems to have the biggest impact on Spectre. Since it does many things (analog, digital, RF, behavioral, etc.) its revenue gets splattered over many sements, and so it does not appear to lead any. From all accounts, Spectre is the total revenue leader in circuit simulation, having passed up HSPICE several years ago.
