FBH-HBT Model
Jul 28th, 2005, 11:44am

Hi All,
Is someone outside there who used this model (FBH HBT by Matthias Rudolph from www.designers-guide.org ) with spectre.
It's running with ADS but in spectre it's not converging.
Thanks
Mahboul

Matthias just sent me a new version (2.1). You might try downloading the latest version and trying again.

Hi Kent,
I tried with FBH-HBT(vers.21) I got the same results.
If I use the model with the default values I got an error:
in line 412 divede by zero and
in the parameter definition in line 144 the range of Fb has to be changed to [0.0:inf).
If I use realistic parameter values it is still not converging (with the same parameters in ADS I have the expected results )
Thanks
Mahboul

Hi Mahboul,

the code was developed and tested with ADS only, but it should converge with every simulator!

We dont have Spectre here, so I can not offer to test your simulation, but if you send me the model parameters, maybe I see something.

Best regards,
Matthias

It might also be worth checking your version of Spectre.  Are you using one of the newer releases that compiles the Verilog-A? (IC5141 or MMSIM6)

I just sent an e-mail to Matthias asking about some problems with the model.

Most of them center around the self-heating model implementation, which I believe is broken, or at least does not match the "usual" implementation of self-heating, whether in built-in models or Verilog-A code for Mextram 504, HiCUM, VBIC, etc.

I hope there will be an updated version soon.
