Integrated Mixer & VCO Simulation
Jan 02nd, 2006, 7:44am

Hi Guys:

I had designed a standalone mixer and VCO topology in Spectre-RF, when I integrated them, I couldn't actually simulate the 1dB compression point, IIP3 point or the Output power spectrum, b'coz there's only one fundamental tone, which is the input tone, whereas the LO tone is generated by the differential VCO. Please do guide me in the simulation process in Spectre-RF. I would also appreciate if any of you could kindly provide me with the documents in the simulation procedure, if there is any.Pls help.....Thanks in advance

Rgds

hrkari,

Have you tired autonomous envelope following analysis?  It is really
intended for handling modulated signals, however, it should probably
work for a sine wave input. It should be okay for IIP3 and the output
power spectrum. Not sure that it supports power sweeps so P1dB maybe
difficult, unless you want to generate an AM-modulated signal.

BTW, the Virtuoso community website contains the SpectreRF app
notes for LNA, Mixer, VCO, and PA simulation. See the following link

                                                           Best Regards,

                                                              Sheldon
