[QUE]relationship of eyediagram and jitter
Jan 18th, 2006, 11:46pm

Hi experts,
Ken's book helped me a lot in noise simulation in PLL.And I have two questions about eyediagram and jitter.

I have done a schematic simulation of  a charge pump PLL by using transient analysis available in spectreRF. And I use ideal ref signals for simulation, others are real schematic circuits. I have done 50us transient analysis and use caculater to plot the VCOout eyediagram of my closed loop PLL.
And I want to ask:
1. edge to edge width in the eyediagram can be the accurate method to measure the jitter of whole PLL? if not, why?
2. It seems that the noise in the ref signals are not included in the simulation. If I model the ref signal with jitter by verilogA code and run the simulation again, If I can get the resonable jitter from measuring the edge to edge width in the eyediagram?

thx
