Virtuoso AMS and Cadence version
Oct 18th, 2006, 1:10pm

Dear everybody,

I am new with AMS simulator in Cadence and would like to setup to use it. In our university in US, right now we have two versions of Cadence installed, IC5032 (20030729)  and IC5141 (in Jan 2006). I would like to know which version of basic package of Cadence in our university has full Virtuoso AMS installed?  (We have no CAD tool Administrator here and we only have general Unix Administrator. Everything has to be found and setup by ourselves.)

After I read the "Virtuoso AMS Environment User Guide, version 5.6, December 2005" (Quick-Start Tutorial Chapter), I only found LDV5.0 under IC5032 package and didn't find LDV5.0 under IC5141 package.

Can anybody tell me what LDV is? and what's the difference between icfb and icms?

Sorry for these naive questions.

Ethan

LDV is a separate installation stream, which holds the tools
for digital simulation and verification (_L_ogic _D_esign _V_erification),
but the notation is old.
The new name for that is IUS (Incisive Unified Simulator, I heard)
and goes from release 5.3 to 5.8 right now, supported 5.4 to 5.8.

Because the AMS designer is based on NC-Sim, the digital simulator,
the IUS stream contains the AMS designer.
If you want to go with the UI of your analog environment or the
'Hierarchy Editor' as front end you need to have the IC stream istalleled
as well.

icms and icfb are wapper scripts around the underlying
binary. They're controlling which tool set will be loaded, there
are even more than these two.
icfb - IC Front to Back
icms - IC Mixed Signal
In my opinion this is a relict of the old days where computers
were not that powerful, to limit the memory allocation from
Cadence DFII.

Have fun.

Thank you so much, Bernd,

I look at it now and do find IUS54USR3 installed parallel with IC5141USR3.

So, both versions (IC5032 and IC5141) should be able to work with AMS designer after I properly setup them, right?

by the way, what is the "UI" you mentioned in the upper?  :-[

If there is still a download for IC5033 available you might get that one, I wouldn't bother with setting up 5.0.32 with AMS.. even 5033 is not much supported any more. (to my knowledge last fix was in Jan 06)
