how to plot phase noise measure screen in HP8562E
Sep 22nd, 2007, 7:36pm

Hi,

I am using HP8562E for my VCO's phase noise measurement. I want to download the screen plot to my computer, so I can write the papre using that plot. But I cannot find any way to do that.  I can use VEE to get the spectrum data itself, but it's better to get the whole screen. SO please kindly help me on that. Thanks!

Hi.

Although you can get spectrum trace data using SCPI command(via VEE),
SCPI(GPIB) command to fetch phase noise data is not provided in Agilent 856X series Spectrum Analyzer.
So you have to rely on HPGL output data.
Plotter data is available via GPIB port or Parallel port.
Usually GPIB port is used.
You have to make a computer to pretend plotter with seeing from Spectrum Analyzer.

If you can not do it yourself, some commercial software is available.
Such virtual plotter is needed since we don't use plotter while legacy instrument provide only plotter output.

Hi Sapphire,
I don't mean to be funny but if all else fails and its urgent why not go for the "old fashioned" approach and take a photo of it with a digital camera?

- if you need the data from the plot, drop the jpg into excel, overlay a transparent chart then plot two colums (or rows) of data which you hand enter, to "digitise" the spectra.

Cheers,
