Question about PDKs
Oct 01st, 2009, 3:50am

My question is why are the sizes of the generic PDKs ( like Cadence's and NCSU's) much much smaller than that of foundry PDKs? What is missing in generic PDKs?

Unix commands like tree, du ... would answer this question very quickly.
Although I can't answer without seeing the content, my experience with PDKs allows me to tell that most foundries provide:
+ many tech libraries, may be with both CDBA and OA versions
+ embedded tools and utilities
+ doc, you quickly reach 100ds of megs of docs when you make screenshots ... etc.

Anyway, foundries provide far more information that simple components ...

If digital libraries, IOs, memories ... etc also shipped with the PDK (which normally is not the case), then you are likely to hit tens of Gigs.

Again, look at your Pdks, a few Unix command and Bob's your Uncle as they say here in Britain Wink

Cheers,
Riad.

Thanks Riad, but here are some snapshots from the kit that I thought might help indicate wether the kit is complete or not.

Hi,

I'm amazed, you must be a very patient person to post all of these snapshots  :) ...
An Ascii text file would have been enough. Why don't you use the UNIX Commands I have mentioned earlier ? Never mind ...

I honestly can't tell you whether your PDK is complete or not although it looks fine from what I have seen.

Instead of speculating on whether your PDKs is good or not, just take the opposite approach, assume it is good, well, at least good enough for what you want to achieve. If you happen to hit any problem, then get in touch  with your PDK provider or post your errors down here.

Cheers,
Riad.
