Reducing Voltage Source Noise
Feb 28th, 2005, 10:11am

I am trying to measure Current response of a tunneling junction by sweeping the voltage from 0 to 0.5V. I measure the noise of v-source alone and found out that it is too high. Can i connect a capacitor across the DUT while taking teh measurement (which is equivalent to  a high resistor) to reduce the noise.

Thanks

You can if ...
1. the bandwidth of the resulting RC filter has appreciable attenuation at the frequency of interest.
2. the currents that flow as a result of inserting the capacitor do not in turn cause their own problems.
