Minimum Attenuation of Matching Pad
May 15th, 2008, 7:13am

Hi.

Using Pi and Tee Attenuators, we can make resistive attenuated impedance converter(Matching Pad).
http://www.rfcafe.com/references/electrical/attenuators.htm

Here assume Z1 and Z2 as terminating impedances of Matching Pad, where Z1 is for port-1 and Z2 is for port-2.
For well-known Pi and Tee Attenuators of the above reference, minimum attenuation(=Kmin) is determined by Z1 and Z2.
And Kmin for Pi and Tee attenuators are completely same.

I can derive this Kmin's equation for Pi and Tee attenuators.

Here my question is wheter this Kmin's equation is valid for arbitrary resistive and reciprocal impedance converters
which convert Z1 to Z2.  ::)

Anyone teach me.  :o
